“Where My Dawgs At” by Melvin D. Johnson

Where My Dawgs At
December 2, 2013 at 2:51am

it's been said
that every dawg will have his day
but a lot of my dawgs
done lost their way
in the game of life
they got lost in the system
and i can never tell them
how bad i really missed them

where my dawgs at

what happened to all my
soldiers of the street
inner city hustlers
brothers of the beat
original gangsters
one for all all for one
hangin' out and chillin'
just for the fun
seems like some of them
got lost in the system
and i can never tell them
how bad i really missed them

where my dawgs at

Herbert and Johnny
they got shot
St. Louis
he got beat to death by the cops
some fell victim
to alcohol and drugs
some went to prison
being defined as thugs
some gave up
gave in to defeat
trapped on the corners
where we used to meet
looking at their faces
listening to their voices
knowing that their destinies
were defined by their choices
seems like some of them
just got lost in the system
and i can never tell them
how bad i really miss them

where my dawgs at

Heavenly Father
i'm so glad you blessed me
to overcome the ways
that this life would test
bring me to tears
sometimes
i wanted to kill
but always i was guided
by your wisdom and Your will
when i was indecisive
You gave me reflection
when i needed it most
You gave me direction
and it's been said
that every dawg will have his day
but a lot of my dawgs
seemed to lose their way
in the game of life
they got trapped in the system

where my dawgs at

i just want to tell them
how much i really miss them
