Authors in the Spotlight 3/30

In today's Authors in the Spotlight, we have M. Sherrer!

---------------------------------------------------------

Name: M. Sherrer

How long have you been published? Since August 15, 2015

What's the worst part about being published? I did not write my book to make money but way the pay structure is set up, everybody else gets their cut before me, and I wrote the book!! 😊

What's the best part about being published? Being able to leave a legacy for the world to enjoy.

Are you self published or did you go through a publishing company? Publishing company- Dark Diamond Publishing

*What are the highs, if any? The publisher has the know how and the experience. He can do the footwork.

*What are the lows, if any? The fees. From what I have learned is that my fee was reasonable compared to bigger publishing companies.

What is the name of your book(s)? Suddenly Single: Heartbreak in Paradise

Was it/were they an easy write for you? Yes it was. This book involved quite a few real life experiences so that made it easier to produce.

What's the hardest part about writing a book? The hardest part for me was finding the time to dedicate to writing it.

What's the easiest part about writing a book? This particular book just flowed out of me every time I sat down to write. Once you have a story to tell, you just have to write it down.

Where can interested readers purchase their copy of your book(s)? My book is available on amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com, and darkdiamondbooks.com and is available in Kindle and paperback formats.

Do you have any future projects in the works? The sequel to Suddenly Single is in the works right now. The working title right now is: The Soul Tie

*Is there a tentative release date? The tentative release date is by the end of this year.

Do you have any social media sites that you would like to share with my readers? You can find me on the author page of  Dark Diamond Books  or Facebook.

Authors in the Spotlight 3/28

In today's Authors in the Spotlight, we have author Lewis Ben Smith!

---------------------------------------------------------

Name: Lewis Ben Smith

How long have you been published? I wrote my first book, THE TESTIMONIUM, in 2012. I signed my publication contract with Electio in February of 2014 and the book was published that August.

What's the worst part about being published? That moment when you realize that just because you have a book in print doesn’t mean that people are going to beat down doors to buy it. I always thought that being published was the be-all and end-all, and in fact it’s the first step. You have to hustle your butt off if you want to sell books to anyone other than friends and family!

What's the best part about being published? The moments. The first moment is when you sign that contract and realize: “This is it. This is going to happen!” The second moment is when you hold your published book in your hands for the first time and can tell yourself: “Holy cow! This HAS happened!”
After that – it’s when people see you and say, “Oh man, I loved your book! When is your next one coming out!” Or when high school students look at you and say “Are you a REAL author?” Tons of great moments!

Are you self published or did you go through a publishing company? I was fortunate enough to find a traditional royalty publisher who was interested in my stuff. They took a contract on my first book and have accepted everything I have sent them since then. They’ve provided a ton of encouragement and support along the way.
*What are the highs, if any? Having professional editors look over your manuscript and scrub it for errors, getting professionally designed cover art, having a huge distribution network.
*What are the lows, if any? I think this is true no matter how you publish your books – that moment when you realize that promoting is a lot harder than writing, and you’re going to have to do it constantly if you want to sell any books.

What is the name of your book(s)? I have three books in print and two more finished and under contract. My first book is called THE TESTIMONIUM, and it is a Biblical archeological thriller set on the Isle of Capri in Italy – a thrilling story of faith, archeology, romance, and terrorism. My second book is called THE REDEMPTION OF PONTIUS PILATE, and it is a historical novel about the Roman prefect who sent Jesus to the cross. The third book is called MATTHEW’S AUTOGRAPH, and it is a sequel to THE TESTIMONIUM, in which the same crew of archeologists - now known as the “Capri Team” - have to unravel a mystery in Israel involving the tomb of St. Matthew and the earliest copy of his gospel ever found. My two upcoming titles are LOVER OF GOD, another historical novel set in the First Century Roman Empire, and THE GNOSTIC LIBRARY, the final volume in THE TESTIMONIUM trilogy.

Was it/were they an easy write for you? Once I get a story going, it tends to flow quickly. My first two books took about ten months each, but THE GNOSTIC LIBRARY was barely six. I rarely know all the twists and turns the plot is going to take; sometimes I don’t even know how it is going to end – I just crawl through that hole in the keyboard and see where it leads me.

What's the hardest part about writing a book? For historical novels, I would say the research. I want my characters and settings to be as authentic as possible, so I read up on the time and on the people involved, and try to get all my historical facts and locations right.

What's the easiest part about writing a book? Coming up with characters. I imagine a name, and then a face, and as I write the personality emerges. I try to portray them as real people, wrinkles and all, not idealized stereotypes. The best compliment I have received was from my Beta reader for THE GNOSTIC LIBRARY. She said: “These are no longer fictional characters to me, they are real people who happen to live in a book.” That made me feel pretty awesome!

Where can interested readers purchase their copy of your book(s)? All of my titles are available on Amazon and Barnes and Noble’s website; however, I make more per sale if you buy them directly from my publisher. Amazon and most other online sellers take nearly a third of the cover price as their commission!

Do you have any future projects in the works? I just started a new novel, set in ancient Rome, called THE EMPEROR AND THE APOSTLE. It chronicles the last years of the Apostle John alongside the reign of the harsh and twisted Emperor, Domitian.

*Is there a tentative release date? Not for the one I just began, but LOVER OF GOD is coming out in April of 2016 and THE GNOSTIC LIBRARY in May of 2018.

Do you have any social media sites that you would like to share with my readers? Each of my books has their own FB page you can like and follow – THE TESTIMONIUM, PONTIUS PILATE, and MATTHEW’S AUTOGRAPH. In addition, you can follow me on Twitter, and I have my own weekly blog which you can find HERE.

Please come by and check them out!

Thank you for you time and I look forward to reading more from you in the future!
Thanks so much for your time, and I hope you will read and enjoy my books.

Authors in the Spotlight 3/24

In today's Authors in the Spotlight, we have author A.K. Kuykendall!

 ---------------------------------------------------------

Name: A.K. Kuykendall

How long have you been published? I’ve been published since November of 2007, but that is just the beginning to my turbulent history in the publishing industry. My history.

What’s the worst part about being published? Trying to both write my next tale in accordance with my contracted deadline and keeping myself visible and engaged with my audience to boost sales of my current published title. Furthermore, I believe these publishing mandates fundamentally stifle creation.

What's the best part about being published? My words are given oxygen by an audience.

Are you self-published or did you go through a publishing company? I’m a traditionally published author. I, personally, abhor self-publishing. I believe it to only have a valid purpose for those traditionally published authors with strong name recognition that may want to write and publish on the side without going through the traditional channels.

*What are the highs, if any? Traditionally published authors with strong name recognition have an outlet to expand their coveted brand.

*What are the lows, if any? The stigma.

What is the name of your book? The Possession (A Writer’s Block Novel)

Was it easy to write? Of course not.

What's the hardest part about writing a book? Writing the book.

What's the easiest part about writing a book? There are no easy parts to writing a book.

Where can interested readers purchase their copy of your book? Everywhere books are sold.

Do you have any future projects in the works? Watch for Imperium Heirs (Conspirator’s Odyssey: Book 1), a conspiracy thriller/sci-fi novel, to come in the summer of 2017.

*Is there a tentative release date? July 24, 2017

Do you have any social media sites that you would like to share with my readers? Website, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Blog.

Authors in the Spotlight 3/21

In today's Authors in the Spotlight, we have author Kai Storm!

 ---------------------------------------------------------

Name: Kai Storm

How long have you been published? Six years; my first book was published in April 2011.

What's the worst part about being published? Not worst but most frustrating would be trying to get everyone to write a review. Plenty of times I will get emails, notes on social media or in person about what a person thought of my book but they fail to write it somewhere where others can see them. Yes, you’re very appreciative of the fact that someone bought your book but as much as you encourage, it still doesn’t always happen so lol.

What's the best part about being published? Knowing your work is being read and enjoyed.

Are you self-published or did you go through a publishing company? Both. I have five novels out that were published by 21Street Urban Editing & Publishing LLC and one on my own.

*What are the highs, if any? The highs are always when you introduce people to your work and they buy it.

*What are the lows, if any? When you’ve done everything you can to promote/sell and you have no sales.

What is the name of your book(s)? Alani’s Bigger Hustle, Alani’s Hustle Gets Bigger, Alani’s Hustle: La Familia, You Just Don’t Know, Where’s My Daddy?, That One Voice.

Was it/were they an easy write for you? Yes. Before I write I see the story played out in my head so it’s easy to get it on paper.

What's the hardest part about writing a book? Having time to do it & going thru the edits lol

What's the easiest part about writing a book? Writing lol!

Where can interested readers purchase their copy of your book(s)? My books are available on Amazon, my website, and www.nattiekai.wix.com/kaistormbooks

Do you have any future projects in the works? Actually no. I’ve been concentrating on growing my author spotlight that I do every week on my sites and making myself a brand.

Do you have any social media sites that you would like to share with my readers? Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Youtube, LinkedIn, Tumblr, Pinterest, and Google Plus.

Authors in the Spotlight 3/16

In today's Authors in the Spotlight, we have authors Aimee Wood, K. Koushik, Matthew Corrigan, and Angel Mystique!

 ---------------------------------------------------------

Name: Aimee Wood

How long have you been published? Since March 2015

What's the worst part about being published? Encountering naysayer(s) and unreasonable people – one gave me a negative review (without even reading my book yet) because he/she doesn't have Kindle reader.

What's the best part about being published? Getting my book out there and influencing your readers in a positive way.

Are you self-published or did you go through a publishing company? I am self-published author.

*What are the highs, if any? Having a full creative authority on my book content and layout under my own pace.

*What are the lows, if any? Marketing my book and reaching a wide range of readers can be costly.
That’s why I’m thankful to La Kata E.K. for creating this kind of initiative and allowing me to be part of it.

What is the name of your book(s)? I’m passionate about fashion and creating my own clothing line, that’s why I enjoy publishing books in the fashion and makeup niche. My books are: “The Ultimate Fashion Guide for Women”, “The Ultimate Fashion Guide for Every Occasion”, “Mind Your Face Shape”, “Mind Your Own Face” and my latest ebook to be published this month (March) is “Embrace Your Curves”.

Was it/were they an easy write for you? Though I feel enough passion for all the books I published, writing them are not that easy. Every idea that comes into my mind should be written down so I won’t forget about it. It takes longs hours of hard work to make sure I’m giving my readers the right information they need.

What's the hardest part about writing a book? All my books are non-fiction. One of the most challenging part for me is creating my book lay-out. Making sure that my readers will find it engaging and easy to understand.

What's the easiest part about writing a book? The outline and draft version.

Where can interested readers purchase their copy of your book(s)? Amazon and from my website.

*Is there a tentative release date? My next eBook – “Embrace Your Curves” will be released next week March 21st. Next book after that is in late spring.

Do you have any social media sites that you would like to share with my readers? You can follow me through Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

---------------------------------------------------------

Name: K. Koushik

How long have you been published? From March 2011

What's the worst part about being published? As a non fiction writer, the worst part would be if you are proved wrong or when your content gets out dated, you are under compulsion to update the book as soon as possible.

What's the best part about being published? Sharing your knowledge, making people happy. All the recognition you get for your knowledge. Every bit of applause. Being a part of history, at least at one's own level.

Are you self published or did you go through a publishing company?  I started self publishing through Createspace.com and Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing.

*What are the highs, if any? No waiting. reach readers soon. You get more percentage of royalties per book sale. You get more control. Though a little hard in the beginning, pays off well if you market well.

*What are the lows, if any? You cannot just be a writer. You have to be a marketer too. You may not be good at everything you do. You have to spend money upfront and you don't get money upfront.

What is the name of your book(s)? Who should do a membership business, Tales of Hanuman volume 1, Tales of Hanuman Volume 2, Hanuman Chalisa explained, Durga Saptashloki - seven verses from Devi Mahatmyam, The heart of the Sun God, 19 plus tips for using GMAIL to the fullest, All that you need to know when buying domain names, All that you need to know about tumblr blogs, Shadpadee Stotra - A hymn on Vishnu by Adi Shankaracharya

Was it/were they an easy write for you? Yes, they were easy because I loved writing them. I only wrote books in the topics I loved very much; Hinduism - my religion and books that were computer related - My profession. I am an internet marketer.

The first four books took me much time to complete than the other books. As a writer opting to self publish, I had to do formatting and designing myself. My knowledge as a web designer and internet marketer definitely helped me a lot. I got help from my friends, colleagues, and teachers, too, in proof reading and gathering opinions for my first two books.

What's the hardest part about writing a book? The hardest part is coming out of the fear of rejection from people and presenting the content in a way people enjoy it. Keeping it a secret til you finish the work to avoid discouraging voices from your own people.

What's the easiest part about writing a book? Easiest part of writing is actually writing the book. Writing really gives me bliss and frees my mind from the bonds. The satisfaction I get upon completion of each book cannot be expressed through words.

Where can interested readers purchase their copy of your book(s)? All my books are available through Amazon. You can also refer to my Tumblr blog for the links to buy my books.

Do you have any future projects in the works? I am working on Wisdom giving names of Kartikeya, Sankata Nashana Ganesha Stotra - A hymn on Ganesha from Narada purana, Names of Shiva - commentary on 108 names of Shiva, Tales from the Shiva mahimna stotra, and All that you need to know about Google keep for increasing productivity.

*Is there a tentative release date? I hope to publish at least the first three books from the list before the end of may.

Do you have any social media sites that you would like to share with my readers? Tumblr

 ---------------------------------------------------------

Name: Matthew Corrigan

How long have you been published? My first novel was published in 2014.

What's the worst part about being published? Worrying about getting the next one published.

What's the best part about being published? For me, it was the sense of achievement. I had always wanted to write but only really started in 2011, when I entered a local competition. To my eternal surprise I won. The judge (an author himself) told me he thought I had some talent. Keep writing, he said. So I did.

Are you self published or did you go through a publishing company? I was published by Empire Publications Ltd., in the city of my birth, Manchester, here in the UK.

What are the highs, if any? Again, the sense of achievement. Although I'd had several rejections there had been some encouraging feedback. Finally holding a published copy felt great.

What are the lows, if any? I made the classic author mistake of assuming that being published was a fast-track to success. It isn't. I'm afraid the farmhouse in Western Brittany and the Piper Seneca V remain, thus far, elusive.

What is the name of your book(s)? OSPREY

Was it/were they an easy write for you? Easy is probably not a word I'd use but it was certainly less stressful for me than it was for those close to me. I spent several months immersed in a world of my own making, holding conversations and arguments inside my head (with people who don't actually exist). Fiction is a strange field, isn't it? In any other walk of life we'd be having very serious conversations with our doctors.

What's the hardest part about writing a book? Editing and rewrites. A friend pointed out I had repeated an entire paragraph. I'd missed it three times. The first draft of OSPREY is unrecognisable. If I'd submitted it as a manuscript I'd have been laughed out of town.

What's the easiest part about writing a book? Finally writing the last line.

Where can interested readers purchase their copy of your book(s)? My book is available through my website, direct from the publisher, or via Amazon. It could use a few more reviews.

Do you have any future projects in the works? Yes. I am 80000 words into the first draft of my second novel. I have about 10000 words to go. Once that is written, I am planning a short book about a strange phenomenon that allegedly occurs in a place known locally as The Haunted Valley. Here's a link to an article about it.

Is there a tentative release date? Not yet. I'm hoping to have the first draft of the novel finished by summer.

Do you have any social media sites that you would like to share with my readers? I'm on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. I must warn everyone that I sometimes swear on Twitter.

Thank you for you time and I look forward to reading more from you in the future! You're welcome. Thank you very much.

---------------------------------------------------------

Name: Angel Mystique

How long have you been published? Currently unpublished, yet I know I will self-publish my works.

What's the worst part about being published? I would say the worst part would be the marketing and just getting your name out there, but there are now so many ways of creating a ‘fan base’. I love to call you all just a supportive network (more like sisterhood) of authors.

What's the best part about being published? The best part, I believe will be holding my books in my hands and hearing that people genuinely were touched by my stories. That’s all I want- for someone (a lot of someone’s) to be touched by my stories… And maybe find themselves within my books along the way.

Are you self published or did you go through a publishing company? Future Indie Author all the way.

What is the name of your book(s)? Oh, goodness. There are so many I have in mind. The series I’m writing right now is untitled. But I do have one book out… on Wattpad. It’s called LOVE SO BEAUTIFUL.

Was it/were they an easy write for you? The book took me eight days to write. It’s a very short read, written October of last year. I’d say it was easy. Since then, I’ve written two books (completed first drafts) in six days and just a few hours. Book 1 of the series I mentioned took me six days. The 3-page side short that will be included within that book, took me less than thirty minutes. Book 2 in the series took me less than twenty-four hours to pen.

What's the hardest part about writing a book? Honestly? I write all of my drafts by hand. With my story stories, I type them up. So, the typing up the manuscript after handwriting would be the hardest/most annoying part for me.

What's the easiest part about writing a book? The easiest part was just letting my muses tell their story. Once I got out of my own way and out of my own head, it was a lot easier to just write.

Where can interested readers purchase their copy of your book(s)? Hop on over to Wattpad to read LOVE SO BEAUTIFUL.

Do you have any future projects in the works? Tons! After I get my first series done, I’m going to be moving to standalone works.

*Is there a tentative release date? I won’t say anything about release dates. When they are released, you and everyone will be the first to know. How does that sound?

Do you have any social media sites that you would like to share with my readers? My Author Page. Feel free to stop by and ask me anything or just chat. Anytime.

Thank you for you time and I look forward to reading more from you in the future. Thank you, La Kata, for having me. I can’t wait to read more from YOU! You’re dynamic!

Name: Jennifer Senhaji

How long have you been published? I published my first book in 2014.

What’s the worst part about being published? The marketing and learning to sell yourself. Don’t take that the wrong way. Lol. I love interacting with readers, but getting your name out there is tough.

What’s the best part about being published? Knowing your words could make a total stranger laugh, smile, and/or cry. It’s an amazing feeling when you know someone has read and enjoyed your book, something that was created by you.

Are you self-published or did you go through a publishing company? I am self-published and I love it. As a new writer, the chances of getting a big-name publisher to notice you are next to nil. So, I took charge, hired an editor, and went to work, publishing my books on my own. I’m happy and love the control. Now, if a big-name publisher from NYC comes knocking, I won’t slam the door in their face. But I’m not actively searching for a publisher.

The best part of being self-published is the control. But as they say, with great power comes great responsibility, and those that self-publish are under the gun to publish books that are just as good if not better than traditionally published books. It’s a lot of work. But it’s a journey, not a race. I’m in this for the long haul.

What is the name of your book(s)? I have two full length novels published, part of my Sunset Dreams Series: Sweet Dreams and Choosing to Dream. Sea Breeze is a standalone novella and my fourth published book, Angels in Disguise, is a novella which is also an introduction to a new series I’m working on.

Was it/were they an easy write for you? That is a tricky question because with each book I wrote I adopted a different process. So yes and no. But I find, the more I write, and the more I learn about the writing craft, the more time and energy I spend on each new story.

What's the hardest part about writing a book? I don’t know if writing is hard… revising and editing is hard. Anyone can tell a story. But to take that story from draft to final is a lot of work. But that’s the best part too. Making your story shine, leveling up your use of language, theme, character development, plot… it’s a craft that is never mastered, in my opinion. But the process, the learning is so fascinating.

Where can interested readers purchase their copy of your book(s)?All my books are on Amazon, my series is also available on iBooks, Nook, and in print on Amazon and B&N online. My links, blurbs, and book teasers can be found on my website.

Do you have any future projects in the works? *Is there a tentative release date? I have two books I’m currently writing: the third book in my series and the first full length novel to follow up Angels in Disguise. At least one, if not both, should be available in 2017, but since they are not yet ready, I haven’t set a date.

Do you have any social media sites that you would like to share with my readers? Website, Signup to join My Dream Team, Amazon, Facebook, Twitter, Blog, Goodreads, Smashwords, and WordPress.

Thank you for you time and I look forward to reading more from you in the future! Thank you so much for having me. Good luck on your journey.

---------------------------------------------------------

Name: Veronica McCall

How long have you been published? I started writing in 2015. I finished around June 2016 and I launched my book in September 2016

What's the worst part about being published? Formatting. This was my first book so this process was all new to me. I spent so much time trying to correct and change my formatted document and book cover so that I could have it printed for paperback or uploaded to offer as an eBook. Formatting is the devil! Lol. It can be very time consuming and frustrating if you do not have proper knowledge and guidance from the beginning.

What's the best part about being published? Seeing my vision that God gave me become reality is the best feeling ever. I also like seeing my name on my book, on amazon, and all types of publications. It makes it so real because I thought it was so impossible to achieve.

Are you self published or did you go through a publishing company?  I am a self-published author and even though it is a lot of work, it was the best way to go for me. I learned a lot through this process, good and bad, and now it is easier for me to publish additional books and help others. I like that I am in control of my book and my sales. I can design my own cover, set my own deadlines, and use my creativity to publish my book the way I would like it to be. I had to do everything myself but now I own the rights to my book.

With Self-publishing, you also have to work harder to promote your book and advertise in order for people to know that it exists and to purchase it. There are many advantages to self-publishing and it is becoming more common practice.

What is the name of your book(s)? My first book-Against All Odds, Persevere! Stories of Our Sisters… Against All Odds, Persevere! 30 Days of Affirmations was released February 2017.

Was it/were they an easy write for you? In my first book, I interviewed several women and turned their interview into their story. This is an interactive book with questions and pearls of wisdom that will cause you to think and re-evaluate your own life. It includes difficult topics such as molestation, domestic violence, low self-esteem, divorce, depression, suicide, being a teenage mother, loss of a loved one, etc… It explains how it affected the women in the story, how challenging life was, and how they persevered. Many times in life, we all face challenges and we think we are all alone and we want to give up. This book will encourage you not to give up on yourself or life and how to persevere against all odds.

The 30 days of Affirmations book is a daily guide to encourage you to speak life over yourself with a positive mindset and outlook on how you view things. We have the power to speak those positive things into existence in our lives.

Was it/were they an easy write for you? No, it was not easy to write for me. Some days the writing would flow easier than other days. Some days I would have writers’ block. Some days I would write and realize that I already wrote something similar to that already. I prayed during the entire writing process and asked God to give me the words that HE wanted me to relate to others.

What's the hardest part about writing a book? The hardest part about writing my first book is that I am sharing my story as well as the story of other women. Some days writing was emotional for me and in some cases, the person that I interviewed to create their story. I had to relive some of those experiences in my story and feel the pain of the other women that I was writing about. There were days that I had to put the computer down for a while and then come back to it. Some days I just didn’t feel like writing but I had to persevere to get my book completed.

What's the easiest part about writing a book? The easiest part about writing to me is the introduction. I knew I wanted to capture the reader from the beginning and I knew what I wanted to write about in general. As I sat down to write the introduction, it came to me pretty easily and dovetailed nicely into the essence of the book.

Where can interested readers purchase their copy of your book(s)? My books are available on Amazon and the bitlinks are (bit.ly/persevere1 and bit.ly/affirmations1), in paperback and eBook and on the Nook (Barnes and Noble). They will also be available for purchase on my website very soon.

Do you have any future projects in the works? Is there a tentative release date? I am currently working on an Against All Odds, Persevere! Journal that will be tentatively be released in March or April and another Against All Odds, Persevere! Book of Stories of people that I am interviewing which should be released by July.

Do you have any social media sites that you would like to share with my readers? You can find me on social media as Running With Purpose on Periscope, Instagram, Facebook, and RunningWPurpose on Snapchat. My email is runningwithpurpose1@gmail.com.
